BikeDenver introduced The Rossmiller Volunteer of the Year Award at the organization’s November 18 end-of-season volunteer party.  Named for longtime BikeDenver Board Member and recent President Gary Rossmiller, the award is given to a volunteer who offered standout contributions during the 2009 Community Bike Parking season.  BikeDenver’s Community Bike Parking Program was created in large part through the individual efforts of Rossmiller, who designed the self-valet bike parking corral system, recruited, trained and supervised bike parking volunteers and engineered BikeDenver’s first partnerships with large-scale Denver events at A Taste of Colorado and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. The program helps more of Denver’s citizenry make the choice to reach for the handlebars instead of car keys on their way to some of Denver’s largest events and festivals. Board President Aaron Henry presented “The Rossmiller” to inaugural honoree Ken Cook.  Gary Rossmiller was pleased with the choice, saying: ” Ken stepped up as a volunteer supervisor numerous times this year.”    Ken accepted the ceremonial custom-labled champagne bottle in recognition of his honor, saying: “It is an honor to be named Volunteer of the Year. However, I hardly feel any more deserving than countless others who have shared their time, energy and enthusiastic support.  I think I can safely speak for all volunteers and tell you it is an honor and a privilege to assist BikeDenver in its effort to make this a safer and more friendly bicycling community.”  Ken has participated in many a recreational ride (in Colorado and out-of-state) He and his wife Suzanne live in Denver, like to ride and travel and volunteered many times this past year.  Special congratulations to Suzanne, who just retired from a long career as an airline stewardess.  We hope you both had a great time on that trip to Geneva!
