Denver Public Works will install a new 10 block left-lane buffered bike lane on 15th Street from Cleveland Place to Larimer Street by August 2013. After hearing significant input from the bicycling community about the importance of safety and the need for protected bike lanes on high-travel corridors in Denver, DPW Manager Jose Cornejo recently committed to enhancing the facility to create a protected bike lane by spring, 2014.
The 15th Street bikeway has been in the design stage for over 2 years while planners examined traffic patterns and worked with RTD. The bikeway will feature some bicycle facility elements new to Denver, including a bike box, queue jump, and green “mixing zones.” Previous counts show 10% bicycle traffic during rush hour on this key connector route to the Highlands, and bicycle traffic is expected to increase significantly with the installation of the new facility.
