Rattlesnakes, knobby tires and kids on bikes! May Bicycle-Friendly Business “Trips For Kids”

The mission is simple: coach kids ten to twenty years old about mountain biking and provide them with bikes to ride.

The Earn-A-Bike program teaches basic mechanics and repair work and allows the kids to keep a bike that they’ve built from the ground up. More than bike maintenance, Trips For Kids instills in the participants an appreciation for cycling as a fun way to be healthy and become increasingly environmentally savvy. Executive director Christi Stafford stresses that taking kids out on the trail provides “limitless teachable moments” throughout the experience. What’s that in the trail ahead? A Rattlesnake! Trips For Kids helps teach city youth how to responsibly react to the situation and continue on in their two-wheeled adventure!

Trips For Kids is something everyone in our community can rally around because they work to get underserved children, teenagers and young adults out biking our beautiful mountain trails. They actively partner with many other bike organizations and nonprofits around the Denver and Boulder areas, including races and charity rides like the Bailey Hundo, Ride the Rockies, and the Beti Bike Bash. They also work with organizations serving urban youth such as Urban Peak and residential facilities. They fill a crucial need and ensure that our youngsters get to experience a positive interaction with the beautiful Rocky Mountain nature. Congratulations and thank you to Trips For Kids, our Bike-Friendly Business of the month!
