Date: February 19th, 2008

Dear Denver bicyclists,
2008 is looking to be the most exciting year for BikeDenver ever, with more events and potential for better streets than ever. We'll be keeping the Denver biking community in touch with email bulletins every two weeks or so. We'd also like you to join us as a member and become a volunteer. If you haven't lately, check out our website www.bikedenver.org -- it's actually updated regularly! If you have any suggestions for email bulletin items, contact us.
Our next meeting is Thursday March 13, 6-7:30p, 1536 Wynkoop in LoDo.
We promise to not email more than twice a month, but if you'd rather not receive any more, you may unsubscribe.

5. Support stiffer penalties for dangerous drivers
From Bicycle Colorado's eNews:
Bicycle Colorado is endorsing a bill introduced in the Colorado legislature that aims to create broader range of consequences for persons failing to yield right of way resulting in bodily injury or death. This bill gives the justice system more options when injury results from someone failing to yield the right of way.
Sponsored by Rep. Marostika and Sen. Brophy, House Bill 1104 creates a new Class 1 misdemeanor traffic offense called "aggravated right of way offense." Right of way infractions are responsible for many crashes involving bicycles and motor vehicles. Under the current system, when those at fault may be charged with penalties as minor as a $10 fine.

6. 1,000 bikes coming to Denver for the Democratic Convention in August.
Denver will likely be inundated with 1,000 bikes for during the Democratic convention in August! Biking will be a preferred mode of transportation during the DNC, Aug. 25-28, with bikes available to delegates, media, protesters, and the public. BikeDenver is working with planners to keep a few hundred bikes in town as a permanent bike pool program. Stay tuned for opportunities to volunteer.
7. BikeDenver moving into the Alliance Center
We're happy to call the Alliance Center our new home. Located at 1536 Wynkoop, next to the Tattered Cover in LoDo, the Alliance for a Sustainable Colorado's nonprofit center will be our new base of operations and meeting space.
