FastCompany.com has done a survey to rate the best “Fast Cities” in a number of categories. Fast Cities are described as “cauldrons of creativity where the most important ideas and the organizations of tomorrow are centered. They attract the best and brightest. They are great places to work and live.” And where did our fair city rank? Well, see for yourself. Not even a City on the Verge. Take solace in knowing we’re not a slow city…Given the emphasis on Greenprint, Denver merits nary a mention. Maybe Denver’s “all talk, no action” policy is getting noticed, but not in a good way.

All talk, no action? We were just promised that bike bridge, remember? … oh wait …
This reminds me of your musings on how Denver could perform as a slow city. Which speed would you like the city to go?

Somehow, I knew that was going to come up. And, Denver not being on the Fast Cities list is relative to the kind of place you want to be (would you prefer to live in Detroit or Portland, for example). The Fast City list is akin to the “Creative Class” cities that are often touted as desirable places to live. So, if it makes any sense at all, I’d like to live slowly in a Fast City.
